Mama Goddess helps make More Milk |

I have a commitment to breastfeed my daughter as long as I can, up to around her first birthday. Between stress, and tight schedules, sometimes it's difficult to keep my milk supply up enough to meet her needs. So instead of giving up, I do what I can to increase supply. This has included increasing water intake, eating oatmeal, pumping extra and drinking Mama Goddess More Milk Tea. While I'm not usually a tea person, this one tops my list of ones I do enjoy.
I was introduced to Mama Goddess a few months ago at a La Leche League event. The More Milk Tea contains a variety of herbs that are know to assist in breast milk production. From the description "More Milk Tea contains a blend of: Marshmallow Root, Blessed Thistle, Fennel, Blue Vervain, Nettle." The tea comes loose in a paper bag, which is also 100% recyclable.
The first thought I had was "how in the world do I make this stuff?" Ok so I'm not knowledgeable about teas so it took me a minute to figure it out. The instructions state to steep 1tsp in a cup of hot water. There is a little more to it for me anyway... I'm not a fan of having my tea still in my cup when I drink it. So I have a special tea brewing cup that allows me to place a teaspoon in then lift out the herbs when it's done. You can also brew it in a coffee maker.
Test number one is the taste. Personally I like the taste of it. It kind of reminds my of drinking grass, but it is not offensive. For me the tea actually gets better as it cools.
Test number two is effectiveness. Once my daughter went to 100% bottle drinking (due to biting), it was becoming more difficult to produce as much. So I then started brewing up some More Milk Tea for some added help. Within the first night, I had noticeable results. I didn't exactly gain 2 bra sizes or anything, but I was able to pump a few more ounces at a time than I had just the day before.
Mama Goddess More Milk Tea is available from the Mama Goddess Birth Shop. It may be available at local shops as well. One 5 oz package is regularly $13. Considering you're only using a teaspoon at a time it's a decent value. My package barely looks used after several servings. This is definitely something to look into for any mama having issues with breast milk supply, especially before giving up on breastfeeding.
